How German tuition and deadlines differ

"Public university" does not automatically mean the same fee for every applicant. TUM lists programme-level tuition for many students from non-EU countries, while Saarland lists no tuition and RWTH’s public programme uses a semester contribution rather than the high annual fees common in the UK.

German deadlines can also split by EU status and intake. RWTH publishes a hard 1 March winter deadline for non-EU / non-EEA applicants to Data Science, while TUM Informatics publishes a winter window from 1 February to 31 May.

Choose by academic fit, not only by title

  • Conversion: designed for graduates without a computing degree.
  • Advanced computer science: expects substantial prior computing and programming.
  • Data science: may require a detailed match across mathematics, statistics and computing modules.
  • English proof: exact tests, scores and exemptions belong to the university, not a country-wide rule.
